Liberty Brew & View a hit!
The Liberty Brew & View showing of Sir No Sir! was a big hit Tuesday night! I was hoping for at least 20 people and got a few more than that. Everyone stuck around after the movie for what turned out to be a very animated discussion lead-off with comments by Bob Wesley.
I've seen the movie before but its a different experience seeing it on a big movie screen. Capital City has an excellent space for this and everyone who hadn't been there before had a good things to say about the movie room. They even serve food late enough for people to get dinner. We're lucky that they're allowing us to use their space. I'm going to start eating lunch there more often.
I couldn't be happier with how people responded to the entire event. People were moved by the film and are excited about coming back again. Thank you to everyone who came!
During the post-movie discussion Joe McMenamin introduced himself and talked about his intention to run for Congress against John Shimkus. As soon as he mentioned his plans, the entire room spontaneously burst out in wild applause.
This is an excellent start and I think Liberty Brew & View will grow rapidly based on the response I'm getting.
On a sad note, a couple of people pointed out to me that one of the leaders featured in the film, Dave Cline, died this week. There's more about him at the Vets for Peace website and an online memorial. For a while I've noticed that the most passionate advocates for peace that I find to be the most moving personally are those who have been to war, and Dave Cline was one of those.
Next, we're showing "Who Killed the Electric Car?" on Tuesday, October 16 at 7pm. After the movie there will be information about how to support the Illinois Clean Car Bill.
I'm still taking votes on the November labor union movie. The blogpoll doesn't appear to work consistently so leave a comment if you have trouble voting.

Glad to hear Liberty Brew & View was a hit. Next time I'll make sure to put it on my calendar so I can make it out.

Hey Will-
Congratulations! That's awesome. I'm glad you had such a great turnout. I wanted to make it out, but I already had plans. I'd love to come out for Who Killed the Electric Car? I've already seen it, but it's a great movie.
Keep up the good work.

This is good news for the central Illinois.
John Shikus took part in a "cover-up" orchestrated by senior Republicans to protect a fellow GOP member of Congress accused of sending sexually graphic e-mails to underage pages
