April recap and May movie
There was a good crowd of at least 50 people who showed up to the Earth Month movies last night. One of the messages of The 11th Hour is that we need courageous leadership to tackle the climate change problem so I was lucky to have two leaders on environmental issues speak after the movie, State Representatives Mike Boland and Paul Froehlich. Boland spoke about bills he's supporting including one promoting LEED standards in new buildings. Froehlich said that environmental action is an issue that distinctly separates the two political parties and it's one of the reasons he switched to become a Democrat after being elected as a Republican. The 11th Hour is now selling on DVD for only $5.
Some people left before Koyaanisqatsi started and more left after it started. It's not a movie for everyone, but that's why I didn't want to show it on its own. Seeing it on a big screen with a good sound system was a new experience even though I've seen it several times before. Anyone who hasn't seen the sequel, Powaqqatsi, should check it out. I think the music and visuals are even better.
The next movie will be Our Brand Is Crisis on Tuesday, May 20. I'll go back to showing one movie at 7:00pm.
