Blagojevich disagrees and agrees with me on Con-Con
I just read on Capitol Fax that Rod Blagojevich opposes a constitutional convention. I've been feeling pessimistic about the chances of the Con-Con resolution getting the 60% it needs because most people I talk to (who aren't political junkies that read blogs every day) have only heard the opposition arguments. But, if people in Sangamon County hear that Mr. "20% of the vote" wants them to vote No then I think it suddenly has a pretty good chance of passing, at least in Springfield.
The best part is that he confirms one of the arguments myself and others have been making that the state constitution gives too much room for abuse of executive power by the Governor. It isn't about the current cast of players. The problem is a constitution that gives too few people too much power to screw things up.
“Thank God that the constitution gives the executive branch a lot of power to get around the legislative branch,” Blagojevich said, adding that without his ability to issue executive orders or use his amendatory veto power there would be no free mass transit rides for seniors or free breast and cervical cancer exams for women.Exactly.“If the constitutional convention were to occur and there was an effort to erode the executive branch’s ability to do those things, then I think less good things would happen for people,” Blagojevich said.
