Schock still supports terrorism

Last April I griped that the local press wasn't giving enough attention to Aaron Schock's stated support of US-sponsored terrorism. Schock said that he favored funding "freedom fighters" like Reagan did, to destabilize rogue nations such as Iran. The impolite, but accurate, term for what those freedom fighters did is terrorism since they engaged in acts of widespread killing and torture campaigns against civilian populations. Some of those US trained freedom fighters later went on to join a group called Al-qaeda.

So I'll give Bernie Schoenburg credit for raising the issue in his Sunday column. Schoenburg doesn't refer to it as US sponsored terrorism, but he did ask Schock if he still favors the idea of funding Reaganesque freedom fighters.

Schock seemed to waver but didn't take back his comments. You can read the response for yourself.

Schock's Reagan hero worship and inability to learn from the lessons of history is another example of his sounding like a conservative talk radio zealot. Add this to his commercial claiming that tax cuts are the best solution for job growth. After eight years of "more tax cuts" being George Bush's answer to every problem, hasn't he noticed that it isn't working out so well? If tax cuts were the best way to create jobs then we'd have the strongest economy in the history of the world right now. Any ideology becomes dangerous when it blinds a person to the realities facing them.

There's a good reason why Schock was endorsed early in the primary by ultra-conservative John Shimkus, but not by Ray LaHood, who recently condemned the destructive tone of talk radio. Schock isn't the kind of moderate Republican central Illinois usually supports.
