Sneak preview of ACORN short film Tuesday
The movie for this month's Liberty Brew & View is about voting rights and I've arranged for a short film on the same topic to be shown before the main feature. Brave New Films produced a five minute film about ACORN and their voter registration drive that responds to the recent accusations against them.
It's being released everywhere Thursday but I received an early copy today for a sneak preview showing at tonight's Liberty Brew & View. I'll show another 10 minute film about ACORN's work that discusses the opposition they face in every election when they run voter registration drives targeted at low-income and minority neighborhoods. Show up early by 6:45 at Capital City Bar & Grill tonight if you'd like to see them.

Since writing about my experience working for Project Vote, which sometimes works with ACORN, I've seen the attacks get worse. People attacking efforts to register low-income voters and people of color is nothing new. What's surprising is a Presidential candidate aligning himself so closely with those voter suppression efforts. ACORN smears are becoming the Swift Boat attacks of 2008. Tonight's videos are a chance to learn the real story behind ACORN and get a wider perspective on the recent attacks against them.
