Sierra Club endorses Robin Kelly
Now I get to officially write another reason why I'm inviting people to Robin Kelly's reception in Springfield Monday, December 14. Below is the full text of the press release from Illinois Sierra Club Director Jack Darin.
SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES ROBIN KELLY
FOR ILLINOIS TREASURERSierra Club today announced its endorsement of Robin Kelly for State Treasurer in the February 2nd Democratic primary election. The endorsement is the environmental organization's first ever for Illinois Treasurer.
"Robin Kelly is committed to using the power of the Treasurer’s office to create clean energy jobs and give us all a healthier environment," said Jack Darin, Director of the Sierra Club, Illinois Chapter. “She has been a key leader in developing new environmental programs in the Treasurer’s office, and we know she will continue to build on these efforts to create good jobs in emerging clean businesses.”
Kelly currently serves as Chief of Staff to State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. As a key part of Giannoulias’ leadership team, she initiated new environmental programs in the office, including a very popular $1,000 rebate program for purchases of hybrid cars, and new support programs for renewable energy and energy conservation investments.
Before joining the Treasurer’s office, Kelly served in the Illinois House of Representatives, where her strong support of conservation and environmental protection legislation won awards from the Illinois Environmental Council.
Kelly’s endorsement marks the Sierra Club’s first recommendation for Illinois Treasurer. Sierra Club will notify its 30,000 members in Illinois about its endorsement, and will be engaging its statewide volunteer network in Kelly’s campaign for the Democratic nomination.
”I'm very pleased with the Sierra Club's endorsement. Their mission to protect the environment, echoes the work I've done in the Treasurer's Office to advance clean energy and a healthy environment," said Kelly. "As State Treasurer, I will work to invest state dollars to not only earn interest, but to create jobs in the clean energy economy, while reducing pollution. The people of Illinois deserve no less."
